Biography

Svetlana Fomina plays violin, viola, viola d'amore, medieval and renaissance viella. She was born in Tomsk, Siberia. She graduated with honors from the Novosibirsk conservatory. At 17 she began her concert activity at the Novosibirsk philharmonic society, undertaking the study of early music in the same year, starting from the medieval one until the 1800s. At 22 she won a scholarship for the two-year specialization course at the Milan Conservatory (prof. G. Maestri). She moved to Italy, completing her studies of violin and viola and specializing at the Lugano Conservatory (viola with W. Christ), Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (baroque violin with C. Banchini), Köln (baroque violin with R. Göbel), Civic School of Milan (theory and executive practice of medieval music with P. Memelsdorff and baroque violin with E. Gatti), Turin Conservatory (viola diploma with D. Zaltron), Pinerolo Academy (viola with D. Rossi), Ivrea (viola with S. Braconi). Her concert career leads her to perform in the most prestigious theaters in Europe, the United States, Argentina, Japan, Israel, Canada, Russia etc. in various formations both as soloist and part of chamber groups (Accademia del Santo Spirito, Montis Regalis quartet, Xenia quartet, Cantica Symphonia). For some years she has been a violinist of the Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco orchestra. She has played, among others, with Concerto Köln, Le Musiciens du Louvre, I Barocchisti, Accademia Bizantina, Sentieri Selvaggi, Accademia Montis Regalis, Mala Punica, La Venexiana. With the sextet of L. Einaudi she has performed more than 150 concerts worldwide. So far she recorded more than 70 CDs.
